Demographics


Revere was incorporated as a town in 1871, known as North Chelsea, and  then as a city 1914.  It is home to the oldest public beach.  Located in eastern Massachusetts and part of Suffolk County, Revere is bordered by Winthrop, Boston, and Chelsea and on the south, Everett and Malden on the west, Saugus and Lynn on the north and the Atlantic Ocean on the east.  Total area is 10.03 square miles, 5.92 of these miles is considered land area. Density is approximately 7,227 per square mile.

Revere is a highly developed residential suburb, approximately 5 miles from downtown Boston.  Out of 4,054 acres of land, 60% is developed for industrial, commercial, residential and transportation uses, and of this 70% is used for housing.  Open water or wetlands occupies almost 900 acres.  The tidal shoreline is approx. 15.1 miles in length of which 3 miles consists of a sandy uninterrupted crescent shaped beach.

The city is within a short distance of all major urban amenities, including theaters, institutions of higher learning, medical facilities and museums.  There is convenient access to all major highways, Logan Airport, downtown Boston and both bus and commuter rails.

Due  to its multi-cultural and diverse population, Revere is a very complex community.  Within it’s boarders, you will find many “old” residential neighborhoods as well as newly developed businesses and refurbished parks.

Approximately 1300 business, are housed in Revere.  Major business districts are Downtown Broadway, Shirley Avenue, Squire Road, Revere Beach Parkway and the beach.  A majority of the businesses are retail and service oriented, giving Revere residents and business owners everything they need at their fingertips.
